Indoor Stadium / Olympic Stadium

Indoor Stadium / National Sports Complex, 1964, Phnom Penh

Located on the west side of the site, the indoor stadium symbolically represents the entire complex.
The great roof is made up of boldly cantilevered plates, about 70  per side, supported by only four columns. Square hollow columns(2×2m) also function as rainwater downspout.  The stands, which rise stepwise toward the exterior, are structurally independent of the roof. The space between stands an roof is covered with light aluminum louvers. These louvers have V-shape section and are arranged in alternately on both side.
Perforations in the lovers and stands admit light and air into the interior, so that the enormous space inside requires no air conditioning.
Water garden surrounds the building. Approach into the arena by crossing the bridge and stairs.
